The Face of Wellness in 2019
As a city at the core of the world’s health movements, San Franciscans are the first to know of the latest news in fitness and wellness. These are the trends to watch out for in 2019.
Treadmill Workouts
The dullest cardio machine in a gym is experiencing a comeback. Whether you’re training for your next race or trying to improve your cardiovascular system, running on a treadmill will never be boring again. Expect audio treadmill workouts and group treadmill classes to pop up everywhere in 2019. If you’re already familiar with them, why not try it out at Stanford Court’s state-of-the-art fitness center?
Dancing Workouts
Those who find it hard to exercise regularly are likely to be drawn to dancing-based workouts. It’s pretty simple: dancing is fun and a full-body workout. With barre classes taking off this year, many people are becoming more interested in the health benefits of dancing, such as improved flexibility, cardio and strength training. If you don’t want a full dance class, look for fitness classes that incorporate some dancing, just for fun!
Workouts for Your Face
It may sound odd, but our faces also need to workout. Think of it as a mixture between a stimulating massage and much needed movement for your facial muscles. Face Yoga is relatively new in the United States, but it seems to be gaining steam. And in a city as obsessed with natural options, we can see the Bay Area embracing these movements as alternatives to botox or facelifts.
Find Wellness in Nature
#GetOutStayOut is bigger each day. With social media detoxing becoming more popular, the connection between nature and wellbeing is more evident than ever. San Francisco is the ideal city to practice tuning in with nature thanks to all its green spaces and nearby parks. One of our favorite ways to explore them is on two wheels, especially with the bikes any SC guest can borrow! Check out the top SF bike trails for all levels.
Mind over Matter
With San Francisco being a yoga hub, mindfulness, the practice of being present and aware, isn’t new at all. However, meditation-based workouts beyond yoga ARE new. Mindful running gained popularity this year thanks to Nike’s collaboration with Headspace to create guided runs. It’s likely that this trend will overflow to other sports in 2019.
